Your youngster wants to join. What do you need to know now?

Scouting in Linburn Scouts

Joining our Group
Go to our Join / Contact Us page and complete the on-line form. We'll take it from there.

We need parent/carer consent for a young person to join our Group. You will receive this form as part of our New Member's Pack on your youngster's first meeting night. This Pack also explains more about how we work and how you and your youngster can get the most out of being in Linburn Scouts.

We should also stress that we're not a drop-in club. Our members need to attend regularly to ensure that their place is kept open and that they can join in all our other activities.

Parents and carers can get involved too!

We hope that you will take an active part in your youngsters' involvement with Scouting - such as supporting our fund-raising activities; coming along to parents' nights and our AGM and perhaps helping out on the occasional activity or event.

You might be interested in getting a little more involved - and we are always able to offer administrative and Leadership roles. See our Volunteer with us page

Why not have a chat with us for more details.

Membership and activity fees
Membership fees are £10 per month - paid on the first week of each month.

Other events and activities are charged seperately. They are priced on a "good value for money" basis. Our main camps and expeditions always have an element of subsidy and our trips and days outs are at the best prices we can get.

We operate an Activity Bank payment scheme, which allows you to pay for events in instalments. It also show you a record of the events and payments made. We provide weekly statements to your e-mail address - along with news and information about Group activities.

We want our members to get as much out of Scouting as possible and we're always happy to discuss any difficulties around payment.

Uniform
We are a uniformed organisation, which is worn by all our members. It is usually required around four weeks after joining. You can order your uniform from us using the form in your New Member's Pack - or just ask us. There are some activities and events when uniform is not needed and we let you know this in advance.

Badges
Your youngster will earn lots of badges. You can download a handy picture of where they all go. Just click on the Section name from the list below

Other things you'll need!
For activities such as hikes and camps, you'll need to have access to some other personal kit, such as:

  • Rucksack
  • Sleeping bag
  • Walking boots
  • Waterproofs

Whilst you may want to have your own items, we maintain a stock of all of these and you can borrow them from us (for a small hire fee).

Finally, if there's anything we haven't covered here, please ask your youngster's Section Leader. If they don't have an answer, they'll know someone who does!

Scouting in the UK

Scouting is a global, educational youth Movement. In the UK Scouting is organised through The Scout Association and has a clear purpose:

To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities.

About us

A strong track record
Linburn Scouts started in 1965, moving to our current premises in 1972. During those years, many hundreds of youngsters have enjoyed some great Scouting.

We are one of the busiest Scout Groups in the local area. Our Sections meet almost every week, averaging around 48 weekly meetings each year. We have lots of extra activities, trips and camps.

We own our grounds and Scout Centre buildings and we have a large stock of outdoor activity and camping equipment.

Although we do not own our own minibus at present, we have access to range of Scout-owned vehicles which we use frequently for trips and activities.

If you'd like to see more of what we've been up to in the past 40-odd years, you can visit our Photo Archive website. There are hundreds of pictures for you to browse through - perhaps you'll find people you know - or even youself!

An exciting future

Redevelopment of the area around our Centre is bringing a new vitality to the community and we intend to play our part in this renewal.

We have now started an extensive refurbishment of our existing Scout Hall, store buildings and grounds. In 2011, we refurbished our Scout Hall extension to provide larger rooms and storage.  This will allow us to better meet the needs of our growing membership.

In the longer-term, we still hope to build a new Scout Centre, either in place of our existing buildings or on a new location.
