We've doubled our membership
in six years. We now have 130 young people in five Section meetings each week. Youngsters are added to our joining lists at
an average of two per week. If you're reading this page, then you're probably interested in helping. so, here's
what you can do to improve the Scouting programme for our members and allow us to bring in even more youngsters. Our most
pressing need is for Adult Leaders (aged 18+) but there are many other ways that you can volunteer to support our work.
As a Leader
Are you looking
for just that bit more out of life? Open minded and keen to learn new skills? Love outdoor adventure and want some real responsibility?
If
you enjoy working with young people then this is for you. Being a Leader means you can make a genuine difference to the lives
of young people and inspire future generations.
As a Leader you’ll be working with Scouts from all backgrounds aged six and upwards,
enriching their lives as well as your own. Take part in activities like camping, abseiling, community and environmental projects,
climbing and lots more. You can use your existing skills but we'll help and encourage you to develop and acquire new skills.
From a Beaver Scout meeting to a South African Expedition - you're limited only by your sense of adventure!
As
an adult helper
Our Scouting simply would not exist without the skills and enthusiasm of our Adult Helpers.
Weekly meetings, Big Days Out, trips and visits all need extra help. Whether you can spare two hours a week or a day a month,
you can contribute. Helping to make a weekly meeting programme work, keeping an eye on youngsters on a day out, driving the
minibus or sharing a skill or enthusiasm - we need people who share our aim of making life better for young people.
As
a Committee Member or Administrator
Parents place a huge amount of trust in us. We have a duty to protect the young people
in our care and make sure that Scouting is safe as well as enjoyable. We also have a duty to ensure that our financial resources
and property are administered properly and that the Group is managed in a business-like manner. It is therefore essential
that we have responsible individuals who can help us maintain our high standards.
If
you are organised, efficient and are not necessarily interested in working directly with young people, there are a number
of administrative opportunities open to adults. Our Executive Committee meets monthly and manages the Group's business
- finances, property, fund-raising, assets, etc. Other jobs need carried out but don't involve Committee membership. Great
for people who would prefer to work at home or in their own time.
As a fund-raiser or supporter
We must raise additional funds to meet the running costs of our HQ and to invest in equipment and premises. We also
do lots of the DIY ourselves, so there are lots of opportunities in raising money and practical skills.
Whatever you choose to do, you will be contributing to the effective running of our Scout
Group. Volunteering in Scouting is incredibly rewarding and great fun!
Why not take a first
step and speak to us about what you might be able to offer? It doesn't commit you to anything.
