Group Weekend Adventure
Camp
Active-8
At Fordell Firs. 44 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers took part in a weekend of adventurous
activities including a rafting trip on the Tay, canoeing at Lochore Meadows, swimming at Burntisland, horse-riding at
Lochore Meadows and many activities at Fordell, including abseiling, crate climbing, challenge course, BMX bike course, archery,
Jacob's Ladder and a Gladiator Challenge. As a special activity everybody went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the
Crystal Skull - except those who fell asleep in the cinema!
Beaver Sleepover and day visits
As part of the weekend 10 Beavers Scouts took part in a Sleepover in the Scout Hall on Friday
and came to join us at camp on Saturday, taking part in their own activity programme. Another 10 Beavers took part in a day
visit on Sunday.
This was our biggest and busiest weekend camp - helped by great weather and lots of Leaders
and parents supporting the activities, catering, transport, setting up and taking down the site. Thanks to all who took part.
Gibb Bugle Competition weekend
In a field of six troops, our all-girl team took third place
in the District's camping skills weekend. Last year we were fourth so we're heading the right way.
Beaver Scout Deep Sea World visit
A group of Beaver Scouts made a Saturday visit to Deep Sea World but, instead of the easy minibus
way travelled by train and walked to and from North Queensferry Station. Very challenging walking back up to station after
the visit - but good that lots of people saw the youngsters out and about - in uniform.

| Paddling on the Union Canal |
Canal Challenge
Six Explorers and two Leaders joined the 81st Fife Scouts for their
annual Canal Challenge event. Following the Forth & Clyde Canal from Bishopbriggs, overnighting at Linlithgow then on
into Edinburgh on the Union Canal the group paddled and cycled the entire route.
Gibb Bugle Competition Selection Camp
A weekend for Scouts who want to be in the team for the District's annual camping competition.
Big Day Out to Edinburgh Zoo
An active animal discovery day - nearly 40 Beavers and Cubs explored Edinburgh Zoo with animal handling
sessions, keepers' talks and displays allowing our younger members to complete some work towards Animal Friend, Animal Lover
and World Conservation bages.
Scout Hall refurbishment
Lots of parents, Explorers and Scouts helped out at a refurbishment weekend. Our Hall still has to soldier on for a few
more years and there's always lots of work needing done. This weekend saw a full external repaint, resealing the store building
roof, new extractor fans fitted in the building and the rear wall of the extension repaired. Explorer Scouts slept over in
the building for a "working weekend camp".
Cub Scout Day Hike
A small group of Cubs walked from Inverkeithing to North Queensferry, then on to and over the Forth Road Bridge. After
an ice cream in McDonalds they headed to Dalmeny Station and took the train home. Quite an adventure!
Beavers to the Deer Farm
A group of 12 Beavers took part in a day trip to the
Deer farm, near Cupar
Scout cycling challenge
A group of Scouts are taking part in a series of cycling trips, leading up to the Cyclist Activity
Badge. Building up their experience and stamina, the Scouts are covering a variety of routes in and around Dunfermline.
Explorer Scout Expedition
Two day, one night expedition for those working on Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze and Chief Scout's
Platinum Award. Taking the Union Canal into Edinburgh, camping overnight at Bonaly Scout Campsite then on to a low-level route
round the Pentland Hills, the group covered more than 30 miles carrying full kit. Pretty challenging for most of them!
Big Butt Freezer Weekend
A group of Explorers spent a January weekend camping at Fordell. No snow or frost, but lots of rain
and wind - and mud, mud and more mud! Archery, climbing, Jacob's Ladder, swimming and 10-pin bowling were amongst the activities
on offer, but mostly it was about building up experience of bad weather camping and keeping the camp working despite the weather.
On that basis, it was very useful!!

Cubs to earn the Experiment and Scientist Activity badges
Christmas 24
A weekend camp for Explorer Scouts compressed into just 24 hours - 24 hours of non-stop activity
- including a trip to the movies, then fire-lighting and a sausage sizzle at 2.00 am, a hike across the Forth Road Bridge
at 4.00 am, an early morning train journey round Fife, a coastal path hike, swimming at Burntisland, then climbing and archery
at Fordell Firs. Finally home for some well-earned sleep!
Group Winter Weekend Camp
"Superheroes"
With this exciting theme, more than 60 young people and adults took part in saving the world!
The camp took place at Fordell Firs, with both residential buildings and the metal bothy hut being used to accommodate the
group. Beaver Scouts came for a day visit on Saturday.
There were many activities on offer, including crate climbing, pedal go karts, caving, trampolining,
the bungee trampoline, trips to Deep Sea World and the Beacon Leisure Centre, handcraft, photography, movies and even bingo!
Explorer Scout forest biking day
Nine Explorer Scouts spent an exhausting and muddy day cycling in Blair Adam
Forest. Loads of mud traps, fallen trees, deep puddles, downhill and uphills to negotiate.
Disney on Ice
Our annual trip to the Disney on Ice show, along with Cubs and Leaders from the 81st Fife (Limekilns)
Scout Group. Once again, an excellent show as the Incredibles visited Disneyland.
Explorer "Lost" weekend
Our Explorer Scouts were stranded on a strange island, abe to use only what they retrieved
from the wrecked plane and find in the jungle. Backwoods cooking, sleeping in shelters made from "wreckage", learning archery
skills, completing the challenge course and finally after these hardships they swam out to be rescued at the Beacon Centre
in Burntisland!

| Sleeping in shelters |
Great weather boosted the last camping weekend of the season for Scouts. As well as activities
around Fordell, the youngsters took part in a hike and swimming session at Burntisland
Beaver Scout Fun Day
Took place at Fordell Firs with loads of activities for the Beaver Scouts on a Harry
Potter theme.

Summer Camp in the Sunshine State!
17 Scouts and Explorers took part in Summer Camp 2007. Joining our old friends at Camp La-No-Che in Florida,
the Scouts took part in Merit Badge Camp with nearly 400 American Scouts - earning a whole range of badges from Archery to
Native American History and trying out various activities such as black powder rifle shooting and a "melon slurp" (social
event) with other Scouts. The Explorers took part in a High Adventure week, including canoeing, tubing, climbing and caving.
The second week saw the whole group visit Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Daytona Beach
and several shopping malls!
