Party time!

Children in Need Party Night
Lots of Beavers and Cuba came along to our first-ever BBC Children in Need party. Fancy dress, disco, games and food ensured that everyone had a lively time - and we raised nearly £240 for the charity. Well done everyone!

What's a Plasma Ball?

Glasgow Science Centre
Our second visit to this superb Science Centre. More than 50 young people took part, with loads to see and do for all ages. We also took the opportunity to see Disney's "A Christmas Carol" and 3-D and IMAX.

Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI)
Making e-mail and live chatroom contact with Scouts around the world (and just down the road!). Youngsters came to the Hall for sessions on-line through an 18-hour session. Some Scouts kept contact going throughout the night at our overnight session.

Wet and muddy group at Falkirk Wheel

Explorers cycle Glasgow to Falkirk Wheel

Another Explorer Scout Adventure Day saw the group cycling from just outside Glasgow to the Falkirk Wheel. Heavy rain ensured a wet and muddy experience for everyone. Back next year for Falkirk to Edinburgh!

Cubs visit RAF Leuchars Airshow

After being caught in epic traffic jams, 11 Cubs abnd three Explorers finally reached the Airshow. This was part of the Aviation Skills Activity Badge for the the Cubs. They saw lots of planes in the static park and watched exciting flying displays, including the Red Arrows and the impressive Vulcan bomber.

Rafting on River Tay

Explorer Scout River Rafting
A popular activity with the Explorers. Once again a group "shot the rapids" on the Tay down to Grand Tully. Very fast moving currents made it a very exciting trip.

A forest adventure at Landmark
Our end-of-summer Big Day Out took us to the excellent Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Carrbridge. 64 young people and adults took part in the 12 hour day, enjoying great weather and loads of activities ranging from discovering about the forest and old-style sawmill workings to water flumes and aerial obstacle courses.

Summer Activity Week 2009
We spent three nights at Consall Scout Camp - with a full (and very wet) day at Alton Towers theme park. Our second full day included an exciting Aerial Extreme adventure course in the trees, a visit to Waterworld indoor water leisure park followed by 10-pin bowling . Back home again and we offered a full activity day and BBQ at Fordell Firs then rounded the week off with a day visit to Loudoun Castle theme park.

Ready for camp fire at the District Camp

Dunfermline District Centenary Camp
We took part in this event, helping to make up the 700+ campers at Fordell Firs. We had nearly 60 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers camping for the weekend, plus 28 Beavers on a day visit - including 20 on two seperate sleepovers. One of our busiest weekend camps ever! Loads of activities and good weather. The Explorers had a particularly good weekend with many exciting off-site activities provided

The "wild bunch" at Blair Drummond!

A wild day out a Blair Drummond Safari Park
Probably our biggest day out numbers yet - some 65 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders had a "wild" day out at the popular safari park. The youngsters managed to try most of the attractions in the park, despite a few rain showers.

Scout Troop runners up in District
Camping Competition
Well done to our six young people who demonstrated that our camping skills are up there with the best. First place next year, perhaps?

Traditional welcome in Zulu village

Explorer Scout
South Africa Expedition

A stunning two-week expedition for 12 Explorer Scouts and four Leaders to the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa. Learning bush ranger skills and coming face-to-face with wildlife in the Umfolozi Reserve. The group visited the battlefields of Blood River, Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift - finding out about the Zulu and Boer Wars. The most exciting challenge was to live in a Zulu village for four days, experiencing genuine community life and taking part in a project to bring fresh, tapped water to the village

 Competition winners!
Our team of six girl Scouts swept to victory at Dunfermline District's Willie Robertson Memorial Trophy competiton. This is an indoor event, in the form of a trading post event, with lots of activities and challenges for the teams. Pleased to report we won by a very large margin!

Winter camping opportunities
Both Explorers and Scouts had opportunities to get away during the winter months. The Explorer Scout "Butt Freezers" are one night camps at Fordell Firs - January, February and March. Pitching and sleeping in hike tents, we provide experience of cold weather camping along with activities such as climbing, archery and trampolining! The Scout Troop organised a two night camp, indoors at Fordell Firs, during February. Firelighting, open-fire cooking, campsite activities, a movie show and swimming at Burntisland completed an action-filled weekend
